Perioperative Blood Management Technologist
Certification
Certification for the PBMT is earned by satisfactory
completion of the IBBM PBMT application process and successful performance on
the certification exam. The PBMT
Certification Exam content focuses on both the basic and clinical science of
perioperative autologous blood collection and cell processing for reinfusion.
After qualifying to sit for the PBMT Certification
Exam, the candidate will complete an exam form with one hundred and twenty
items. The first exam is offered April 8, 2008 at the AmSECT International
Conference. Those previously certified by the American Board of Clinical
Autotransfusion will automatically be
certified as a certified PBMT. They will be required to follow all subsequent
requirements as established by the IBBM. Subsequent exam forms will be offered
on-line for candidates to complete under the direct supervision of a local IBBM
certified preceptor. The exam
items are based on the exam plan matrix in the following table.
