Recertification

All certified Peri-operative Blood Management Technicians (CPBMTs) must complete the recertification process on an annual basis. Recertification is intended to declare to the public that the CPBMT continues to meet standards of current knowledge in the field through continuing education and clinical activity.

  Recertification contains the following components:

1.      Recertification Application which is composed of the Clinical Activity Report, Authorization for Release of Information and Case Verification Form and $100.00 recertification fee (submitted every year)

2.  Continuing Medical Education Report (submitted every third year online)

Once all materials are received and verified by the IBBM National Office, you will receive your IBBM certificate.

Clinical Activity Report

Each CPBMT is required to perform a minimum of fifty (50) clinical activities annually. A clinical activity is defined as an autotransfusion procedure defined as a clinical blood management application, performed in congruence with a surgical case in the operative or perioperative period, which involves a semiautomatic cell-processing and washing device. All procedure reporting periods begin on January 1st and end on December 31st.

Students in an accredited educational program that contains an autotransfusion segment in the accrediting agencies (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or similar organization) Standards and Guidelines for their profession, may also receive credit toward certification eligibility for the a case performed by a CPBMT.

All Clinical Activity Reports are due on March 1st of the year following the activity period and with procedures completed during the calendar year proceeding January 1st.

Authorization for Release of Information and Case Verification Form

The Authorization for Release of Information and Case Verification Form must be submitted every year no later than March 1st.  The top part of this form form must be signed by the applicant.  The bottom part of the form must be completed and signed by an immediate supervisor or other hospital authority who must verify the procedures submitted on the Clinical Activity Report.

Continuing Medical Education Report

During each three (3) year reporting period every CPBMT must earn thirty (30) Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits. A minimum of ten (10) CME credits must be earned by attending educational venues on blood management (see summary of recertification activity).

One Continuing Medical Educational credit is defined as sixty (60) minutes spent in an organized, structured learning experience, such as a blood management meeting, on-line educational course, or similar venue.

Each CPBMT must file a Continuing Medical Education Report every three (3) years documenting clinical activity. The Continuing Medical Education Report must contain documentation of thirty (30) continuing medical education activities that the applicant took part in during the previous three (3) years.
